Emily had a very interesting night last night. She got some pretty decent sleep last night which is great news and allows her to walk more which is key to her recovery and release from the hospital. The pain regimen continued to work fairly well which is a wonderful praise (she is holding steady at a 3 or 4)...well at least the part that was given to her. ;-) She is having a hard time celebrating those victories at the moment...
The night time nurse was not Emily's favorite person and will not be her nurse again after last night. Let's just lovingly call this nurse grouchy and say that it did not leave a very good taste in Emily's mouth this morning. After all that Emily has been through and this special meeting with the Acute Pain Team yesterday, it was quite frustrating to have a nurse who had never taken care of Emily before, question everything all night long and not want to give her what was prescribed for her. If I can hear Emily's voice last night it would probably sound something like...GRRRRR. :-)
She thankfully has a wonderful nurse this morning which I hope will make that bad taste disappear sooner than later but she is quite defeated at the moment. In trying to see the good in this and trusting that "for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose (Romans 8:28)", I'm hoping that the fighter side of Emily was awakened a little bit more last night, and that she can allow God to use all of that frustration for good through the power of Christ in her.

Emily Mulkey’s Fight Song!
… to the tune of the
Texas Tech Red Raider Fight Song
Fight, Emily, Fight!
Fight, Emily, Fight!
Fight for the lungs you needed dearly!
Treasure them well!
They’ll treat you swell!
Breathe deep and know you’ll soon be well!
Go … fight! … fight!
Promises you can claim …
Encouragement in His name …
God’s strength to be your portion now!
You can fight it!
HE can heal it!
Be of good cheer
HE will win it!
And His Victory will soon ring out!
Love you,
Kathy Waters

Emily,
I am so sorry you had grouchy nurse, wish I was closer to help take care of things like this. :o) I know Philip is wishing he could be there riding down the halls on an i/v/ pole or doing his amazing glove on the head trick for you.
I know you are tired, and frustrated that the recovery is not going quicker. I pray that this combination of meds will continue to give you the relief you need to sleep. Your body needs it. Sleep will help your body to begin to heal and give you the strength you need to fight.
It my feel like baby steps but you have already came leaps and bounds. keep going.
We will be praying for, knowing and caring hands to take care of you. For night of uninterrupted and restful sleep,
Sweet Dreams of what the future holds!

Praise God! The power of prayer is evident! So many people have been praying for you guys- especially your pain and rest. I was so excited to open my email with WONDERFUL NEWS as the subject. I am so proud that your pain is under control. I will pray for continued pain control and lots of deep sleep! I hope each day you will be feeling a little better than the day before. You guy are always on my mind and in my prayers.
